![]() Conjuring-lite scares merge with a heaping pile of sitcom humor, and in the early goings, the two-hour runtime feels more like a threat, less like a promise. The ghosts they encounter are loud, crispy, and evinced in music-video style quick cuts and lustrous lighting. GHOSTLAB MOVIE MOVIEThe first third of the movie is a slapdash, Flatliners retread, minus all the nuance and Hollywood star power but with considerably more ghostly shenanigans. He works alongside the sprightly Gla (Paris Intarakomalyasut), another doctor rendered in similar uncertainty– Gla is preeminently obsessed with the existence of ghosts because… he thinks he may have seen one once? The two of them, ostensibly the only two doctors in a hospital that apparently only treats Wee’s mother, play Ghost Hunters: Thailand Edition, skulking about the dark, narrow corridors of Ratanarj hospital, scouring its halls and empty rooms for ghosts. ![]() If you do believe in ghosts, this film might be even more of a frightfully good (if silly) time.Thanapob Leeratanakachorn stars as Wee, a dour shell of a man driven to medicine on account of his mother’s nebulously defined chronic illness. ![]() But the acting is surprisingly good, the thrills are occasionally surprising and fun, and the places the main characters end up are quite far away from where they began. It also might be dangerous to suggest that ghosts' appearances and "power" increase as people they care about are in danger then again, ghosts aren't real. These moments happen numerous times before the film decides that it has adequately explained how these doctors and "men of science" are now without a doubt into the whole ghost thing. The movie also bounces back and forth between melodrama, horror, comedy, and romance genres, but this could be a factor of cultural differences. Many scenes that happen between the horror and action moments feel drawn out and melodramatic. For one, Ghost Lab is simply too long at 2 hours. There's a lot to like about this Thai horror film, but unfortunately, a few things bring it down. A fair amount of swearing includes "f-k," "f-king," and "s-t," primarily. Characters discuss suicide, "crossing over," and if there's an afterlife. A ghost further breaks his leg and twists it around grotesquely. A man is pushed over the railing and falls two stories onto his back, breaking his leg (it's bent back and disfigured). ![]() A man is beaten, thrown, punched, and has objects and furniture thrown at him. GHOSTLAB MOVIE SKINSurgery scene shows scalpel cutting into skin and then an organ that starts to bleed a lot. ![]() There's also a scene of sexual violence, a scene of self mutilation, and some scenes of characters in peril. One character kills himself and another tries to do the same multiple times. While the special effects aren't great, there's still lots of violent thrills, gory moments, and bloody outcomes. When do they appear? Why do they appear? What do they want? With plenty of jump scares, grotesque ghosts, and sudden twists, this film will scare some viewers. Stunned as people of science, they set out to try to figure out how ghosts work. Parents need to know that Ghost Lab is a Thai horror movie about two doctors working at a hospital who suddenly have a run-in with a terrifying ghost. ![]()
